The story behind the Apple OS is fascinating. Traditionally, Apple used Motorola CPUs, but later migrated over to Intel CPUs. Apple hasn't made much information available about installing the MacOS on non-Apple products. In fact, one computer developed by Psystar resulted in a lawsuit from Apple because they didn't like their operating system to be installed on non-Apple computers.

The lawsuit was surprising to many computer users, because the very fact that anyone would create a clone to run their operating system should be considered a compliment of their design.

Most Mac-users would never consider buying a clone, so market shares would never be moved away from Apple products anyway. But one can understand that there is big business in keeping your products unique. But it could be argued that money isn't made from selling hardware - whereas the big bucks are earned by selling more software.

In that regard most Mac-users value the easiness with which they can handle all creative needs. When you unpack your Mac, you have a unique experience of unwrapping a very stylish design. Look at YouTube. You will see many videos of people unpacking everything from their iPods to iMacs, and it's simply because the design is far superior to other computer suppliers.

I have unwrapped many pc's since I bought my first computer second-hand in 1989, and every time has been special but never quite as unique as when I got my first MacBook in 2007. That was a definite special moment I still remember, and as we got iPods for all our kids - and gave some for my two eldest nieces when they reached the age of confirmation - we have always felt it was a special moment when seeing the ease with which their products could be turned on, the USB-cable connected with a computer, and then music put on them like nothing else.

Even the cheap iPods are handled very well when you have iTunes - even on a traditional Windows-pc. Apple products are superior to competitors' products, and so Apple should be proud so many people want to run their operating system.

It is interesting, by the way, to remember that Apple traditionally allowed some producers to install the MacOS system, but upon Steve Jobs' return in the mid-90's that was stopped. Apple has text in their end-user agreement that says: "You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so." That text might as well be removed because Apple has so much goodwill among its customers that it need not fear any competition.

Windows 7 themes are some of the most striking themes. It has become a hot choice for all those who are using the operating system as well as those, who are still happy with their XP and Vista Operating Systems. But contrarily, Windows 7 themes are not compatible with XP or Vista.

How to get it worked on other versions of operating system? Scroll down to get the tweaks which would allow you to give a Windows 7 appearance to your Windows Vista and Windows XP enabled computers.

Install 7-Zip Windows 7 themes using ".themepack" extension.

To extract files from the zipped Windows 7 theme folder, install free 7-zip utility. This will extract your files into a new folder.

All the Vista users who are running Aero, a double click on the newly created theme folder would let you change your windows borders in one of the downloaded theme outlook.

Those users, who are trying to implement Windows 7 theme on XP enabled machine, can it done by particularly clicking 'set as desktop background.'

There is one more light tool, which helps in setting up windows themes on XP. This is known as "wallpaper shifter app." This application picks random wallpapers from selected directory and sets it as the active Windows wallpaper.

If you want to add theme sound and Icons, it is very easy to do, as you only need to copy the sound files (these are normally in.wav format) to the default media folder.

To add any windows 7 theme icons on your Windows Vista machine, you have to right click at anyplace on the desktop and then choose 'personalize.' It will be followed by clicking on 'change desktop icons.' Now chose the icon, which you want to.

To change desktop icon in XP enabled machine, like Windows Vista, you have to right click anywhere on Desktop. Now select 'properties'. This would be followed by selection of 'Change Icon' tab and then browsing of new icons.

To change your Visa or XP screensavers or cursors' look into Windows 7, you can copy the screensaver files from the downloaded Windows 7 theme pack and copy into windows system folder. You can change them by taking a tour to control panel.

Enjoy Windows 7 traits on your Windows Vista and Windows XP platform... The entire procedure is bit time-taking but look is worth the paid time.

In the beginning the Windows Mobile OS and the Palm OS ruled the Earth. One day, the Apple iPhone OS began to dominate the market. Today, a new competitor has climbed into the ring, Google Android. Google is slowly taking over the world, they took over our search engines, and we loved it. They took over our YouTube and we loved it. Now they're taking over our cell phones, and I'll love it, but not today.

Currently the only official Android compatible phone is the T-Mobile G1, which has already shown that the Android operating system has a lot of potential because it's open source. I've been seeing a lot of programs for the Android platform but the iPhone has vastly more interesting programs. I see programs hit the iPhone first and then a similar program arrives for Android. It's a great idea to let people develop programs on their own, not to mention it creates a very inexpensive market where you can get most of your programs for free. I have downloaded numerous programs but there's so much more customization that can be had, we just haven't seen it yet. One thing I am personally waiting for, is a today theme, just like on the Blackberry and Windows Mobile where your home screen shows your daily tasks, messages, and emails.

I'd also like to see an onscreen keyboard that trumps the iPhone. There are a few on the market right now but they're not that great and you can only use them when you're text messaging, they don't work in your calendar or your emails. This is something Android developers must be working feverishly on because the proposed T-Mobile G2 doesn't have a physical keyboard, but will that port over nicely to the G1? Only time will tell. I'll love the Android OS one day, but not yet.

I do love how there's not one, not two, but three desktops, who needs that much space? I need all that space! It allows me to place my icons and application shortcuts in a quick accessible location with just a swipe of the finger, no more digging through Program Menus. One thing I would like to see is a seamless slide from one screen to another. Right now the Android OS has the screens locking on one desktop then another and another.

Another thing that bothers me about the Android system is not being able to install programs onto the SD card, programs have to be installed on the phone and as you know the G1 doesn't have infinite memory. It would be nice to install and run programs from the SD card, just like Windows Mobile. Of course the iPhone doesn't have this problem because has plenty of onboard memory and no expansion slots.

The Android operating system is great, possibly better than Windows Mobile and the iPhone OS, but it has a lot more potential to become even better and completely take over our cell phones. I only have simple grievances about Android, it's not anything big, but with such a powerful and dynamic operating system, I am disappointed it's not mind blowing. I expect more, I expect a lot more, and I think Android will offer everything and anything you can imagine in the future revisions, but not yet today.

Microsoft's business plans in the field of Mobile Operating systems is undergoing vast changes to keep in pace with its competitors. It has been working out plans to suffice its wider customer base. Microsoft's forte is in its customized offering to its target customers be it the casual phone users market or the Enterprise market. So far, it has introduced six different versions of Mobile Operating Systems for Mobile phones and devices that are tailor made to suit the customer's needs. Whether the new additions will compete in the Industry is a question raised by many of the Industry experts and consumers.

First in the Microsoft's Phone Operating System, family is Windows Mobile 6.x. This version is soon going to end and second is the Windows Phone OS 7.0 which many of the OEMs are using currently. Thirdly, to cater to rising needs of the Enterprise market, it has introduced Windows Embedded Handheld 7 OS for the Enterprise handheld devices. Fourthly, for TVs, kiosks and similar devices, it has Windows Embedded Standard 7 OS. Fifthly, Windows 7 OS that serves as a platform of Netbooks and Tablets. Lastly, for the PC manufacturers who make non-Intel processors and less-battery powered slates and other consumer mobile equipments, it has plans to bring in Windows Embedded Compact 7 by this year-end.

One may think why Microsoft has different Operating Systems to offer and why not just one platform for all. It is because that Microsoft chooses to work on specific needs of its target customers rather than having the same platform for all. Moreover, having a generic platform for all is practically impossible. With growing needs of various Industries like Healthcare, Manufacturing, Aviation and many others, customization is required to some extent.

Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS is already running on many of the ruggedized computer manufactures like Honeywell, Motorola etc., With the innovation that OEMs likes Motorola bring in with their phones, there is need to power up the hardware with a suitable platform. Thus, Microsoft bridges the gap by offering end-to-end solution with its new versions of the OS. That said, Microsoft is going to stop providing Windows Mobile or the Windows CE toolkit to its OEM partners. Instead of that, it plans to include everything in the new Windows Embedded Handheld OS version, which is built on top of Windows Embedded Compact core 7. This provides rich interfaces and programs that enable building robust applications.

PC makers who manufacture slates or consumer mobile devices, and those who build GPS applications can use Windows Embedded Compact 7 as a platform. However, Windows Embedded Compact 7 is slated for release only in this year-end. In addition, Microsoft insists the phone makers that they can choose the Windows 7 platform, if they want to build applications for small-screen consumer phones that are used for consumption as well as content creation.

With Apple's iPad offering All-eggs-in-one-basket platform and Apple's rivals choosing Google's android OS, Microsoft faces a tough competition. While Apple and Google offering a generic platform with great features, Microsoft takes the path of customization to its customers and in time, we will know who will succeed and prevail.

At some point when struggling with a computer problem it might be easier to reinstall the operating system. The time it will take to do this and set up your applications might be less than the time it's taking to fix the problematic computer issue.

Computer problems are something that is going to happen regardless of how well you try to care for the system. Having things like malware scanner, virus scanners, registry cleaners, defragmenting the hard drive, and other forms of computer maintenance help, but at times these just aren't enough. Eventually there is that one huge problem that seems difficult to fix despite using the most updated and strongest reviewed software for the situation.

At some point in time you have to start weighing the costs. On the one side is the time and effort it is taking you to fix your computer problem. On the other side is the time and effort to just reinstall the operating system and start over. If you are spending more than four hours on a serious computer problem, it might be time to give up and reinstall.

If you are running an operating system with restore point, consider going back to one of those first before wiping the hard drive and starting over. These system restore points many times can save quite a bit of time. You can go back to a point before the problem occurred making your computer life easier.

Before you do a system reinstall there are a couple of things you need. Be sure you have working restoration disks for your operating system. Also be sure you have backed up your data. At times, especially with Windows computers, doing a complete reinstall will get rid of all your problems and also speed up your computer in the process as they can get slow over time.

While it may seem like a strange way of dealing with computer problems, buying more and more software and spending hours with a problem is a bit pointless when a reinstall is much easier. Next time you have a major problem, try this trick and see if you do save time in the long run.
